We are also expanding to North Bay, Ontario. Please note that we are unable to service island properties. Do you renovate cottages or seasonal properties?

Absolutely. Muskoka cottage and seasonal property renovations are a big part of what we do. Whether you're updating a lakeside kitchen, refreshing a bathroom, or doing a full interior renovation on a cottage, we're experienced working on seasonal properties and can work around your schedule. Please note that we are unable to service island properties.

We specialize in kitchen renovations (including RTA and custom cabinetry, and countertops in quartz, laminate, and granite), bathroom remodels, shower systems, tile work (backsplashes, flooring, feature walls, and more), flooring installation, painting and trim work, and interior finishing — for both primary residences and seasonal/cottage properties. We handle projects of all sizes, from focused refreshes to full gut renovations, for residential and small commercial clients.

Is there a fee for estimates?

On-site estimate fees may apply: $100 within Huntsville town limits, and $200 outside of Huntsville town limits. This fee is fully credited toward your project if you proceed with Dyson Contracting. Kitchen design fees may also apply and will be discussed upfront.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend reaching out as early as possible — especially for spring and summer projects, which book up quickly in Muskoka. For larger renovations, booking 2–3 months in advance is ideal. That said, we do occasionally have last-minute cancellations and can sometimes accommodate projects with as little as a week's notice, so it's always worth reaching out even if your timeline is tight.

What should I have ready for the estimate?

A general sense of what you'd like to accomplish, any inspiration photos, and a rough budget range all help us provide the most accurate estimate. That said, don't worry if you're unsure — we're happy to guide you through the options and help you figure out what's possible within your budget.

How does billing and payment work?

Accepted Answer

A 50% deposit (including HST) is due at estimate signing to secure your spot on our schedule. The remaining balance is due upon project completion. We accept e-transfer and cheque. Credit card payments are accepted with a signed pre-authorization form; please note that credit card processing fees are passed on to the client. Late payments are subject to 2% per month after 30 days.

Do you offer financing?

We don't offer in-house financing directly, but we're happy to discuss phased project approaches that work within your budget. Many clients also use home equity lines of credit or renovation financing programs available through their bank.

Question 20

What happens if unexpected issues come up mid-project?

Accepted Answer

In renovation work, surprises do happen — hidden water damage, rot, outdated wiring, or structural issues behind walls. Remediation work (such as rot repair or water damage remediation) is always treated as an additional cost and will result in a Change Order before any extra work begins. When we encounter something unexpected, we stop, document it, walk you through what we found, and present your options. In cases where unexpected work must be completed before scheduled work can continue, a Change Order is created for that additional scope. If a Change Order is refused, the project is considered terminated by the client and a final bill is prepared that includes the value of work completed to that point, plus any materials already purchased. You are never on the hook for surprise charges without your approval.

What is your typical project timeline?

Timelines vary by scope. A standard shower remodel typically takes 1–2 weeks. A full bathroom renovation runs 2–4 weeks. A full kitchen renovation may take 4–8 weeks depending on cabinetry lead times and complexity. We provide a detailed timeline in your estimate and keep you updated throughout.

Do you provide material and product recommendations?

Yes — and it's one of the things our clients appreciate most. We work with premium suppliers including Caesarstone, Cosentino, and Cambria for countertops, multiple cabinet manufacturers for both RTA and custom cabinetry, Benjamin Moore for paints, and Moen and Delta for fixtures. We'll help you find the right products for your style and budget.

Can I supply my own materials?

In some cases, yes — we're happy to discuss this during your consultation. Keep in mind that materials sourced through our supplier partners often come with better pricing, warranty coverage, and guaranteed compatibility with your project specs.

Our process has five stages: (1) Consultation — we visit your space, discuss your vision, and learn your budget. (2) Estimate — we prepare a detailed written scope and quote. (3) Design & Selection — we help you select materials, finishes, and fixtures. (4) Build — our team executes the work with daily site cleanup. (5) Completion — we do a final walkthrough with you to make sure everything is exactly right before we consider the job done.

For smaller projects like a single bathroom, flooring, or painting, absolutely. For larger renovations like a full kitchen gut, it depends on the scope — we'll discuss what to expect during your consultation so you can plan accordingly. We always leave the worksite clean and safe at the end of each day.

Do you handle the full project, or do you subcontract?

We self-perform most of our work with our own team. When specialists are needed — such as licensed electricians or plumbers — we work with trusted, vetted trades we've partnered with for years. You'll always know who is on your site.

How do you handle site cleanliness during the project?

We treat your home with respect. The worksite is left clean and safe at the end of every workday. We use protective coverings on floors and surfaces outside the work area, and do a thorough final cleanup before project handoff.

You'll have direct contact with your project lead throughout the build. We provide regular updates on progress, flag any decisions that need your input promptly, and are always reachable by text or email. No chasing us down for updates.

Changes happen — we understand. We handle scope changes by documenting what's changing, the cost and timeline impact in the form of a Change Order before proceeding. No surprises.
